"The Beginning"

Above left is a photograph of the site of the Fort Loudon Dam before any construction work was started.  Notice the large island in the middle of the river.  This island was known as Belle Island.  The first stage of the project began with the construction of the locks on Belle Island. 

At the beginning of the Fort Loudon Dam project, a lot of site preparation had to be done.  In the pictures below, you will see some of those sites.  Notice the large five bay platform that shows up in many of the pictures.  If you will keep your eye on that, it will give you a good perspective of what you are looking at.
